...have I mentioned how excited we are about The Acorn, the cottage we'll be staying in at Laura & Lloyd's farm near Kerikeri (in early Feb.)? Click on the link to see a description and photos (and rest assured I will post my own photos of our experience there!). Laura also rents it out as a vacation cottage, so if you're ever planning on staying in the Bay of Islands, this would be a fantastic place to rent. We're super excited about experiencing the farm there as well, check out Laura's blog at Our Wee Farm to read about their garden, property, and animals. Her photos are incredible.
The work exchange we'll be doing up there is 4-5 hours of work per day in exchange for accommodation, food not included. And by the looks of it, the cottage itself is more than payment! We're looking forward to meeting more small farmers, learning as much as we can from them, and contributing to their land and livelihood.
I also looked up some info and reviews on Aqua Lodge, the backpackers we'll be staying at in Napier. The reviews are all fantastic, it looks like a small, family-run joint with free bike rental, a solar-heated pool, lots of long term residents, and a 5 minute walk to the city centre and the ocean. Score.
