On My Mind...

Joining in with the On My Mind Friday feature with Down to Earth.

On my mind today is my desk up in the garret, and what it means for me over the next couple of years: school. I'm going to be spending a lot of time at this desk as I earn my Masters of Public Health from Portland State University, starting so very soon. I am very excited to become a student again, and to study and work in a field that combines all of my passions and interests, but I haven't yet managed to really wrap my head around what it will mean to go back to school (it's been more than 5 years now since I graduated with my BA). I am registered for classes and have signed all the paperwork for my student loans (sigh), but my brain has been to busy with coming home from New Zealand, moving into our house, work, dealing with being sick, etc that it hasn't sunk in yet that my life and habits are about to change pretty drastically. I've planned on getting my MPH for a few years now (I was admitted early in the spring of 2010 but deferred my admission for a year to go to New Zealand) and suddenly I start classes on September 26th!  My goal over the next month is to find the time to sit down, refresh myself on the ins and outs of my program, work on finding my textbooks secondhand, and get myself down to campus to get myself oriented and settle into the reality of being a student again.

I am so glad you enjoyed the rhubarb crisp! I love your desk, it is so beautiful! I am also starting school in the Fall, still working towards my BA. Sigh, and I go in on Monday to set up my loan as well. Oh well, it will be worth it in the end!

I went to university 25 years after I'd left school, so I think you will be fine, I was. In fact, my daughter and I went together!

Buy your textbooks online they tend to be cheaper used on the web than they are in the bookstores - just have to be careful with the different editions. (That is my back to school wisdom from 3 years ago).
